Description:
North American Irish Fiddle Champion Kyle Burghout joins forces with flute/whistle player Justin Thériault and Celtic harpist Susan Toman to perform a collection of traditional and contemporary Celtic music from Ireland, Scotland, and Canada. The concert will feature music specially selected for the holiday season, with accompanying anecdotes about the history of the tunes and stories from the trio’s travels. This is a rare opportunity for audiences to hear three of Ottawa’s leading traditional musicians performing in concert together.
About the Artists:
Kyle and Justin met playing in sessions around the Ottawa region over ten years ago. They've since travelled to traditional music festivals in New York, Toronto, and Ireland, sharing a love for the music of Clare and Galway.
Justin is mostly self-taught on flute and whistles, having learned from recordings of Paddy Carty, Kevin Crawford, Isaac Alderson and Catherine MacEvoy. He studied the uilleann pipes under the tutelage of Joey Abarta, and is strongly influenced by the playing of Mick O'Brien and Liam O'Flynn. He also leads the Ottawa Ceili Band.
Susan specializes in two musical worlds, with expertise on the harpsichord & performance of Baroque music, as well as the Celtic harp and Irish music. She spent several months in Ireland in 2014 while training with Grainne Hambly, and is now highly sought after as a performer and instructor of harp.
